Crown Attorneys Appointed in Halifax and Dartmouth

Sarah Kirby has been appointed a Crown attorney in Halifax and Emma Woodburn has been appointed a Crown attorney in Dartmouth.

Martin Herschorn, director of public prosecutions, announced the appointments today, Nov. 3.

"Ms. Kirby and Ms. Woodburn each have a unique background which, in combination with their legal skills, will be a solid asset to our team of Crown attorneys," said Mr. Herschorn.

A native of Halifax, Ms. Kirby graduated in 1994 from Dalhousie University with an honours bachelor of science and in 1999 from the juris doctor program.

She articled with McInnes Cooper and was later appointed an associate concentrating in commercial litigation with a sub-specialty in marine law. In 2007, Ms. Kirby moved to Metcalf and Company, and in 2009 to Ritch Durnford. At each firm, she provided dispute resolution, litigation and regulatory advice, and representation to a variety of commercial clients.

In 2011, Ms. Kirby was appointed assistant dean at the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University. In addition to her role at the law school, she was also a Small Claims Court adjudicator and a member of the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada.

A native of Halifax, Ms. Woodburn graduated from Saint Mary's University with a Bachelor of Arts in 2006 and from Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in 2013.

Between degrees Ms. Woodburn worked in Poland as an international projects assistant with the Association of Entrepreneurship Promotion and as an English teacher in South Korea. Ms. Woodburn articled with Stewart McKelvey and later was appointed an associate.
