Screen Nova Scotia is taking the lead on growing the film industry, and government is supporting their efforts to attract more productions to the province.

Business Minister Mark Furey announced today, Nov. 6, government would provide up to $475,000 for infrastructure that will help the industry take a leading role in its own success.

"We have listened, and we are receptive to industry's plan," said Mr. Furey. "Our response addresses some of the gaps they have identified, and this support will provide industry with some of the tools they need to be successful during this transition.

"Together with Screen Nova Scotia, we will move forward and restore confidence by showing producers from around the world that we have talented people, and Nova Scotia is open for business."

The two-year agreement supports Screen Nova Scotia's efforts to address location services, including a web portal and hiring additional support. It will also provide marketing support, and help develop a long-term strategic plan.

"This agreement will help us better promote Nova Scotia as a place where talented crews make top quality productions," said Marc Almon, Chair of Screen Nova Scotia. "It will give producers a single place to turn to for support and information. Screen Nova Scotia is looking forward to further dialogue with government in the weeks ahead to address the remaining issues facing our industry."

Government will continue to work with the film industry, and discuss ways to create sustainable, long-term success. Regular reporting will be required to continue to ensure fairness, transparency and affordability for taxpayers.

Since July 2nd, NSBI has received 11 applications to the new Film and Television Production Incentive Fund. Five projects have been approved for more than $1.1 million in government support representing a total production value of almost $6 million.
