Statement from Minister About CACE Financial Audit

Education and Early Childhood Development

NOTE: The following is a statement from Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Karen Casey.

The preliminary results of a financial audit underway on the Council on African Canadian Education, or CACE, have been referred to Halifax Regional Police.

Next steps will be determined after the audit is complete, which is expected later in March. The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development requested the audit in response to a recommendation from a financial review in 2013, which followed an audit of CACE in 2010.

I value the work of the CACE board and will continue to work with them in their important advisory role to improve educational outcomes for African Nova Scotian learners. CACE will continue to be funded to carry out this important work.

Because the matter has been referred to the police, the department cannot comment further at this time.
