Municipal Affairs (April 2014 - May 2019)

NOTE: A list of projects follows this release.

Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Karen Casey, on behalf of the Municipal Affairs Minister, announced funding for improvements to 18 Royal Canadian Legion branches today, July 24.

Government is investing more than $108,000 under the Legion Capital Assistance Program to help branches upgrade heating systems and washrooms, repair roofs and siding, and replace doors and windows.

"Legion members across the province contribute considerable time and energy to their communities through meetings, activities and events," said Ms. Casey. "Legions host many local projects and programs for seniors and youth, and play a crucial role in bringing communities together."

The program provides up to 50 per cent of eligible costs, to a maximum contribution of $10,000.

"This cost-sharing program for capital improvements to legion branch buildings greatly assists the Royal Canadian Legion in its delivery of programming and services to veterans, their families, youth and seniors," said Steve Wessel, president of Nova Scotia-Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion. "I commend the Government of Nova Scotia for its continued support of branches."
