Ernest Buckler: A Remarkable Nova Scotia Novelist

The Cruelest Month

McClelland and Stewart Limited published The Cruelest Month and Frank Newfeld designed the cover. The book retailed for $6.50 in 1963.

Irene James reviewed The Cruelest Month in The Gazette, 5 October 1963, p.19. She began, ''A novel by a Canadian author is still rare enough to cause a flurry of excitement, but when the author is Ernest Buckler the reading public had better sit up and take notice.''

She concluded, ''Ernest Buckler can say more in one page than most authors say in a whole book. Ideas seem to pour out of him. A book to be enjoyed again and again for pure pleasure.'' (MG 1, vol. 2512, no. 1408)
