Census Returns, Assessment and Poll Tax Records 1767-1838

'Valuation Real Estate Halifax and surrounding areas 1775 and 1776'

The original record is 18 pp., includes 376 names, and is located in RG1, Vol. 411. The cover is torn and the title partially obliterated. The list of property holders is alphabetical, and includes the appraised value of their land and the tax to be paid. Specific locations are generally not given although the record appears to contain at least some entries for outlying areas, e.g. William Spry, property valued at £1000 — likely at Spry's Fields [present-day Spryfield]; two individuals are specifically identified as living in Dartmouth.
