Telephone

The telephone service in Digby today is much different than what existed in the past. In 1886 the Maitland Telephone Company was founded in Yarmouth and ran lines between Beaver River and Digby. In 1889 the Westport and Digby Telephone Company was founded and officers were elected. Lines were set between East Ferry and Digby. The October 2nd 1894 edition of the Digby Courier reported that the Valley Telephone Line was established and service was soon to be offered. Poles and lines were in place for the distance between Annapolis and Digby except for five miles.

Date: Late 1800s
