Olympic Medallist and 'Canada's Flying Schoolmarm'

''The Acting High Commissioner receives the Canadian Women Athletes at Canada House''

The British Empire Games were held in London in 1934. The athletes include Aileen Meagher who is shaking hands with the Acting British High Commissioner. The story ''Canadian Women at the World Games: A story of Athletic Achievement'' appeared in The Canadian Gazette and Export Trader, 16 August 1934; this photograph appeared on page 393. The article mentions E. Palmer secured third place and Aileen Meagher secured fourth place for Canada in the 200-metre race. It also noted that Aileen had recently established a new Canadian record of 25 2/5 seconds in the 220-yard race. [MG 1, volume 2997, no. 2, p.144 (microfilm 9488)]
