Knight of the most honorable Order of the Bath, Lieutenant-Governor and Commander in Chief in and over his Majestys Province of Nova Scotia, and its Dependencies etc etc etc.

The Petition of Sam. Paul, John Paul and Joe Barss, in Behalf of themselves and fourteen other Indian Families now living in the neighbourhood of Halifax.

Humbly sheweth, that your Petitioners are in a very suffering condition at this Season as the Game has become so scarce that they cannot live in the Woods, and their Business of making Baskets, Ax-handles etc, is so over-done that they cannot find sale for what they make; that several of them are Widows or old and infirm Persons, who live chiefly by Begging, but have so worn out their Benefactors that they are obliged to go every Day to Town, as they have nothing to eat upon a Stormy Day if they stay in their Wigwams.

As your Excellency is the Representative of King George Who has always been their Friend, and the Friend of the poor in all Countries, they hope that when you know their Distress you will grant them some Relief and your Petitioners as in Duty bound.
