Letter from William Nixon to Sir John Wentworth stating the situation of Mi'kmaq at Guysborough. Reports that a number of immigrants arrived at Pictou from Scotland bringing small pox, whooping cough, and measles. Fearing for their health, the Mi'kmaq left Pictou for Guysborough River. Nixon seeks relief for these Mi'kmaq.

Also includes letter from Smith to Wallace noting that once the Mi'kmaq recovered from whooping cough, he advised them where game was located and the Mi'kmaq then had a successful hunt, killing several bears, one moose and wildcats.

Letter of R. James of Bridgetown to Joseph Howe regarding the report of Dr. Johnston on small pox among the Mi'kmaq of Bay Shore enclosing a resolution of a Special Session of the Magistrates held at Bridgetown in 1849, ordering Drs. Johnston and Cochran to attend the Mi'kmaq and prevent the spreading of small pox, and also orders Joseph Whitlock, who declined to act as Health Warden, to attend the said doctors and see that the aforementioned regulations are carried out.
