We whose names are hereunto subscribed do each of us, voluntarily engage with the Commissioners appointed by His Excellency Sir John Wentworth and the Legislature of Nova Scotia, for the purpose of Establishing settlements upon Isle Sable
To proceed in the Schooner Hannah - Crook Master to said Island and there to serve under the orders of W. James Morris who is appointed overseer of Superintendent of the work and duty to be carried on upon the said Island, conscientiously soberly & diligently; and we do each of us promise & engage to obey with Cheerfulness and Willingness all the lawful and necessary orders of said Morris by night as told as by day- not only in the duty he may judge proper & necessary to be carried on in and about the Island but also in a special manner to exert our utmost endeavours in serving and protecting the Lives and property of such persons as may be so unfortunate to be cast ashore by wreck upon or near the said Island

And we do each of us hereby further engage to remain upon the said Island until the first day of May next or until a vessel shall arrive from Halifax with the orders of said Commissioners to relieve us or such of us as may be hereto inclined or ordered to come away
