Halifax 11th April 1848

Sir,

We have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Note of the 10th Inst, informing us by command of His Excellency the Lieut Governor that Mr Townsends Instructions on his mission to Sable Island lie at the Provincial Secretarys Office and are open to our perusal. We beg leave to observe with reference to our communication of the 8th Inst. that we did not presume to seek for the Documents you allude to as His Excellency the Lieut Governor did not think proper to communicate them to us previous to the departure of Mr Townsend, such a request on our part would to us appear highly improper, and wanting in the respect due to His Excellency.

We would take the liberty of observing that the principal object of our
