Halifax 20 May 1848

Sir,

During the period of our service, as Commissioners of Sable Island, it became necessary for us to give bonds to the Admiralty for a quantity of iron ballast for the use of the Sch.r "Daring".

As this bond comprehends a personal liability on our parts, we beg to ask the favor of His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, that he will be pleased to order that the same may be transferred to our successors in office, or that we may be released from any penalties attaching to it.

We have the honor to be,
Sir
your most obedient Servants
E.Cunard
Wm. Lawson Junior
