District of Halifax
Personally appeared before me, (one of Her Majesties Justices of the Peace for this District,) Mr. John H. Darby who solemnly deposeth and saith that whereso it has been reported by John Nisbett, that I have been in the habit of getting my vessel supplied with provisions from the Superintendant of Sable Island, I do hereby solemnly declare that this is untrue and that I have never received supplies from the Superintendant of provisions in any form, or kind, except in the case hereinafter mentioned that in September 1847- the Superintendant applied to me to take some passengers of the Island to Halifax they being the family of Captn Abbinett that had been left on the Island; with Captn Abbinett, and Mr Paw, that I consented to take them on board my vessel provided the Superintendant would send a sufficiency of provisions on board with them for their passage, and he done so consisting of a little hard & soft bread; together ten or twelve pounds, with a bottle of milk, -
