To His Excellency, SIr John Harvey, Knight
Commander of the Order of the Bath, and Knight Commander of the Royal Hanoverian Guelphic Order, Lieutt Governor and Commander in Chief. In and over Her Majesties Province of Nova Scotia and Its Dependencies [illegible]
May I please Your Excellency
To take into consideration the prayer of your humble petitioner, and cancel the order for my removal from this establishment, and if your Excellency has found any thing that I may inadvertently have done through my zeal for the benefit of this establishment, and in the trying situations that I have been frequently place, that your Excellency will pardon any such involuntary offence and give me an opportuniity to correct any errors, if such there be, as I am most desirous of remaining and performing the duties here with which business I am well acquainted, and not suffer me to be crushed and cast off upon the cold world now in my old days after devoting the greater part of my youth, and all my mankind to the establishment by which it has been much benefitted, and I reiterate the solemn truth to your Excellency that I have never defrauded, or injured, this establishment to the value of one shilling designedly, but have done the utmost in my power to benefit it, and have laid out several sums of money that has not been refunded to me for the benefit of the establishment. I came here first in the year 1807, and continued to serve through 1808-9-[V11?], In 1812 & 13, I served on board the Phoebe, and Shannon, Frigates, and in the Dockyard at Halifax, and in one of those latter years, I came here pilot of the Shannon Frigate, and saved 63-000 dollars from the wreck of the Barbados Frigate, with all her crew, and some prisoners, from 1813 to 1830, I was master of my own vessel in the service of this establishment, being employed by Government, and during which time I saved from 350 to 400 human lives here with an immense quantity of property
