the "Daring" in the Court of Vice Admiralty which would have incurred a larger expence, we verbally communicated to you our opinion, that it would be for the interest of Government to compromise the claim of the Petitioner, in order to avoid the expence of litigation, and afterwards arrange the division of the amount paid. This meeting your views we on the 9th Sept.r paid the Hon. J.B. Uniacke the Atty. of Petitioner the Sum of Fifty Five pounds in full of all demands, being ^Thirteen pounds less than his claim, but at the same time conceiving that the Commander of the "Daring" ought to pay some portion of this amount: We consequently called upon him so to do, and have received his reply, offering to pay the sum of Seven pounds Ten shillings, which amount he states he offered to pay Cap. [LeBlanc?] in the presence of witnesses, and which he promised to receive in full of all demands. Should this arrangement meet the views of His Excellency the Lieut Governor, we shall in our accounts charge
