the sum of Forty Seven pounds Ten Shillings to the debt of the Province. We beg leave to remark, that had Cap [LeBlanc?] personally made application to us for remuneration we might have been enabled to arrange the transaction at less cost, and our only inducement to settle the claim as we have done, was the absence on duty of Cap. Darby at the time, and the certainty that if delay took place, and the suit was placed as threatened in the Court of Vice Admiralty that we should from the best information we could obtain be obliged to pay at least the sum of Forty pounds in costs alone at the first stage of the proceedings.

We beg to assure you that we have in this unfortunate accident acted according to the best of our judgment for the public service, and praying a reply
