Island of Sable

By the 2nd Sect.n of 1 Vict. Cap: 12 The Commissioners are authorized to exercise all the power and authority on said Island in relation to persons found thereon, which by the 8th Sect.n of 41Geo. 3rd is given to the visitor and inspector of Sable Island - that is to apprehend persons found on said Island without licence, or to bring their prisoners to Halifax together with any goods found in their possession and upon proof that they had willfully gone on said Island without Licence before 3 Justices of the Peace, the said Justices may commit them to gaol for six months and so much of the goods and effects found on said Island in the possession of such persons shall by the order of said justices be sold, & the neat proceeds of the same be applied to the payment of the charges and expenses of the residue returned to the owner or owners - unless such goods & property shall appear to have been cast on the
