there will be a deal of suffering amongst us, in fact
we can never again go through such fatigue and hardship
as we endured last winter at saving the "Growlers"
Cargo, and she lay within 500 yards of the wretched hovel
on the South side.

3rd I think it strange that I am not allowed a
a Blacksmith, especially after having asked so often
for one. Surely I must be the best judge of what this
place requires, And I now beg again for a Black-
-smith to be sent and at the same time send a supply
of coal, and Iron for [Carptines?] axes + [illegible]

4th I wish more attention to be paid to the selection
of men for this establishment. A Man who is neither
a Mechanic, a boatman, a teamster not yet a handy-man
is totally unfit for this Island, and so is a cripple
whether he be a handy man or not.

5th There should have been 200 horses at least
taken from the Island last summer, and I would
advise that arrangements be made in time for relieving
the Island of that many or a greater number in July
next, and that 20 or more horned cattle and some
sheep be sent in their places.

6th The Island should be furnished with a life
boat; the thing here Called a life boat would be more
properly named is Called a Man trap, And as the
public have been told there is a superior life
boat on Sable Island and I say there is no such thing
here, I wish an order may be sent for the article in
question to be forwarded to Halifax for public
inspection. It is of no use here. That there should
be a life boat on the Island I think no person
will deny - 7th
