Economic Impact of the Nova Scotia Ocean Sector 2002-2006

April 2009

Nova Scotia's economy continues to experience significant benefits from the ocean industry sector.

The "Economic Impact of the Nova Scotia Ocean Sector 2002-2006" report conducted by Gardner Pinfold shows that between 2001 and 2006, the ocean sector's contribution to provincial GDP increased from 14.5 to 15.5 per cent. Ocean activity created nearly 30,000 direct jobs in 2006 and with spin-off effects, the number doubles to over 60,000 jobs or 13.9 per cent of total employment in the province.

This study is the result of a collaborative effort by provincial and federal departments.
