IMAGE INFORMATION

An original and copy of this portrait are said to have been made. One was owned by the subject, who let it be displayed at a local framer's in 1859. A second was commissioned by or presented to Mayor William Caldwell, with whom Christianne Morris was friends. The Caldwell copy, unsigned oil on canvas, measuring 14.85 x ll inches and labeled "Christina Morris" on the back stretcher, was photographed in 1917 by Gauvin & Gentzel of Halifax, at the request of the Nova Scotia Museum. The glass negative they produced is now broken, but the pieces are still in the collection. Christianne Morris died in 1884.
