IMAGE INFORMATION

Harry Piers of the Nova Scotia Museum wrote on the back:
"Mattio Jeremy, a famous Micmac Indian hunter and trapper (whom Dr. Edward Breck thinks is a pure-blooded Micmac), of Annapolis, Queen's County, and Digby County, N.S. As a young man, the story goes, (and Mattio swears to it!), on a dare from his uncle, he crept into a swamp and up to a moose lying down but awake, and slapped it on the haunch, calling 'Chiglahsee!' ('Get out o' here')." [Nova Scotia Museum Accession Book II:4061.]
