IMAGE INFORMATION

The photographer, John Muir, was working for W. H. Munro Studios. This group of Mi'kmaq was photographed between 15 and 21 July 1923, during the re-enactment and celebration of the 1773 landing of Scottish settlers at Pictou. Standing, back row, left to right, are Chief Matthew Francis; Mrs. John Sark; Agnes Francis, wife of Matthew Francis; Jeremiah Bartlett Alexis (alias Jerry Lonecloud); Louisa and Joe Julian of Truro; Elizabeth Paul. Seated in the foreground are Chief John Sark, with children Martha Francis (Mrs. Sandy Julian), and her brother Charlie (also identified as the "grandson of Chief John Sark", and as "William Francis.") The Nova Scotia Museum's glass-negative copy by Gauvin & Gentzel, Halifax, done 18 December 1928, is now broken.
