In 2005 the Department of Natural Resources was designated by the provincial government as having primary responsibility for the enforcement of the Off Highway Vehicle Act. Twelve conservation officers from the Enforcement Division have been assigned enforcement of the Act as their primary responsibility.
Each officer is a certified ATV and snowmobile instructor, They are based out of the Department offices located at Antigonish, Bible Hill, Bridgewater, Coxheath, Guysborough, Kentville, Oxford, Shelburne, Tusket, Waverley, Whycocogmagh and Windsor.
Their equipment, 4x4 truck’s and trailer, ATV’s, snowmobile’s and motor cycles, are fully operational emergency vehicles with red and blue lights, siren and public address system. Each of the vehicles is uniquely identified with the Department enforcement graphics package.
During patrols and community education events the officers will work jointly with Off- Highway Vehicle Clubs, other Conservation Enforcement Officers and police agencies across the province resulting in a community effort where hundreds of people will be involved with the education of off-highway vehicle safety.
