Provincial Parks Strategy

In 2011, the Province of Nova Scotia released The Path We Share, A Natural Resources Strategy for Nova Scotia, 2011-2020. The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources has administrative responsibility for the Province's system of 300 provincial parks and park reserves. The Path We Share identified five goals for the provincial park system: Shared Stewardship; Far-sighted Planning; Protection; Education; and Recreation.

In support of these goals, the Strategy requires DNR to begin involving Nova Scotians in setting priorities for a sustainable provincial parks system by February 2012. The initial phase of the public engagement has begun and consists of:

  • meetings with other government departments, NGOs, and recreation organizations;

  • facilitated community sessions for municipalities and local groups, and sessions specifically for the general public;

  • survey research about park users and non-users. Read the report

We invite you to get involved as we embark on creating a sustainable park system for the future. Public meetings were held throughout Nova Scotia from May 31 to June 26 to discuss the future of Nova Scotia's provincial park system. Park Maps and Information provides a description of each provincial park in Nova Scotia. Please review and provide your comments on the information provided.
