?EDUCATION--Nova Scotians Urged to Appreciate Teachers/Staff Every Day

Education Minister Jane Purves today commended Nova Scotians for showing their appreciation of teachers and school staff during this year's national Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, Feb. 11-17.

"Thank you to all of you who showed your gratitude this week to teachers, principals, support staff, bus drivers, custodians, program assistants and the many other individuals who work to create an environment of learning in our schools," Ms. Purves said.

The minister expressed her personal thanks to all teachers and school staff and urged Nova Scotians to express their appreciation all year long.

"I encourage everyone to not limit their appreciation for teachers and school staff to a special week but to show it each and every day," she said.

Nova Scotia's 158,000 students are served by 9,900 active teachers and more than 4,800 support staff.

The Canadian Home and School Federation developed Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week to highlight the contributions of teachers and staff in the education sector. The week has been celebrated each year since 1988.
