Ken Meech New Interim CFO for Strait Board

Education (July 1999 - March 2013)

Ken Meech is the new interim chief financial officer (CFO) for the Strait Regional School Board. The Department of Education and board officials today announced the six-month appointment, which is effective Dec. 10.

Mr. Meech has extensive experience in financial management and senior administration. Most recently, he was chief administrative officer for the Halifax Regional Municipality. He will receive payment equal to half the CFO's salary and expenses for relocation and travel in accordance with government policy. Mr. Meech will report directly to the acting superintendent of schools, Phonse Gillis, and will report to the board and the department on financial matters.

The board has been without a CFO since Nov. 6, when its former director of business and support services was dismissed.

Education Minister Jane Purves and board chair George Kehoe agreed the appointment of a CFO was good news given the upcoming budget planning process and the continued focus on quality education for students in that region.
