With the summer driving season on our doorstep, the Nova Scotia government is making sure that finding a gas station is easier than ever.
A new, free online offering from Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations is running today, June 30, that will pinpoint every gas station in the province. Through the service, motorists will be able to locate stations by brand name and determine whether they offer full-serve, self-serve or both levels of service.
The Web site www.servicens.ca/gasstations/ can be reached from any computer that can access the Internet, including local CAP sites and Internet cafés, and Express Service kiosks at most Access Nova Scotia and Registry of Deeds offices. Printed listings of gas stations, on a county by county basis, will be available at Access Nova Scotia and Registry of Deeds offices.
While this is good news for all motorists -- including out-of- province tourists -- it is especially helpful to seniors and disabled drivers in search of full-service stations.
"Our government promised that we would make it easier for senior and disabled drivers to find the kinds of gas stations they needed," said Peter Christie, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations.
Seniors and disabled motorists can also obtain the printed lists of full-service gas stations from the Seniors Secretariat and the Disabled Persons Commission.
"This is really a cross-government solution," said Mike Duda, acting director of program management and corporate services, Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. "The Department of Environment and Labour issues licences to service stations and we tapped into their data. Service Nova Scotia's Geomatics Centre in Amherst then used the data to build our online mapping application for the Web site."
The site will be updated around June every year as stations renew their licences through the Department of Environment and Labour.
