Woodlot Owners of the Year Field Days

The Department of Natural Resources will host three woodlot events in September and October to recognize the provincial and regional winners of the Nova Scotia Woodlot Owner of the Year award.

"Field days are a wonderful opportunity for the public to enjoy the outdoors while seeing the results of good forest management practices on private woodlots," said Natural Resources Minister Richard Hurlburt. "The Department is pleased to recognize the extra thought and care that all nominees for the Woodlot Owner of the Year award have put into their woodlands."

Richard Irving, of Baxters Harbour, Kings Co., is the 2003 provincial winner and winner of the western regional title. A field day will be held Saturday, Oct. 4 on his woodlot.

The day's activities will include displays and demonstrations of small-scale equipment. Tours of the woodlot will show special wildlife corridors as well as harvesting and silviculture work that Mr. Irving has done himself. The eastern region winner is Phillip Clark of Brophy, Antigonish Co. A field day is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6 on his woodlot. For more information contact Tim Bailey at 902-863-7373 or by e-mail at baileyta@gov.ns.ca .
