Deputy Director Appointed

Public Prosecution Service

Adrian Reid has been appointed deputy director of the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service (PPS). Martin Herschorn, director of public prosecutions, made the announcement today, Nov. 13.

"The Public Prosecution Service is indeed fortunate to have someone of Mr. Reid's calibre and expertise in this key management position," said Mr. Herschorn. "Mr. Reid's extensive knowledge of the law and almost three decades of experience in criminal prosecutions are a valuable asset to the PPS."

As deputy director of public prosecutions, Mr. Reid will be a key player in prosecution policy development. He will also manage case-specific issues and oversee administrative matters, including financial and human resources. As deputy director, Mr. Reid will represent the Public Prosecution Service on several national and provincial criminal justice committees.

A native of Dartmouth, Mr. Reid began his career in criminal prosecutions 27 years ago, first with the Nova Scotia Attorney General's Office and later with the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service. He has conducted thousands of criminal prosecutions including major cases involving sexual assaults, frauds, robberies and homicides. Mr. Reid has also had significant experience as an appellate lawyer arguing cases in the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal.

In 1990 he became associate chief Crown attorney for the Public Prosecution Service's Halifax Region and was appointed chief Crown attorney of that region in 2000. In September, Mr. Reid was appointed acting director of public prosecutions.

A 1975 graduate of Dalhousie Law School, Mr. Reid was admitted to the Nova Scotia bar in 1976. In 1995, he received a Queen's counsel appointment.

Mr. Reid replaces Marc Chisholm who was appointed as a provincial court judge in September.
