Crown Attorneys Named in Sydney

Public Prosecution Service

Sydney lawyers Gerald MacDonald and Shane Russell have been appointed Crown attorneys in the Sydney office of the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service.

Mr. MacDonald, a native of Sydney, holds a bachelor of arts from St. Francis Xavier University and a bachelor of journalism from the University of Kings College. He graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1990 and entered private practice in Sydney. Over the years Mr. MacDonald has practised criminal, family, civil, employment, real estate, labour, corporate and wills and estates law. He began per diem Crown attorney work a few years ago and has acquired extensive court experience. Mr. MacDonald was most recently with Sheldon Nathanson Barristers and Solicitors in Sydney. He is the chair of the Green Link Park Society -- a community group involved in the development of quality recreation and park space in Sydney.

Mr. Russell holds a bachelor of science from Dalhousie University. He graduated from the University of Manitoba Law School in 2003 and articled with the law firm of Sampson McDougall in Sydney, becoming an associate with that firm just this year. Mr. Russell, a native of North Sydney, sits on the board of directors of the Society for the Treatment of Autism. He is also a member of the Cape Breton Junior Chamber of Commerce.

The appointments are effective Nov. 1.
