Province Releases Whites Point Quarry Panel Report

Environment and Labour (Oct. 2000 - March 2008)

A report containing the Joint Review Panel's findings on the Whites Point Quarry and Marine Terminal Project in Digby County is available, today, Oct. 23, to all Nova Scotians.

The report was released by John Baird, federal Minister of the Environment and minister responsible for the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, and by Mark Parent, Minister of Environment and Labour.

The ministers thank the Joint Review Panel and congratulate the chair and members for conducting a thorough, open, and transparent review of the project. The Joint Review Panel was instructed by the federal and provincial ministers to assess the environmental effects of the proposed project.

"The federal minister and I will carefully review the panel's recommendations," said Mr. Parent. "I hope to have my decision on the project later this fall."
