$3.2-Million Road-Paving Contract Awarded

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

An important road connection between the South Shore and Annapolis Valley will soon be smoother and stronger thanks to a road-paving contract awarded by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.

The $3,221,900 contract was awarded to Dexter Construction Co. Ltd. to repave a section of Trunk 8 from 6.5 kilometres north of the Annapolis/Queens county line south for 12.5 kilometres. The project is scheduled to be completed this summer.

"Awarding these contracts now helps contractors get a jump on the upcoming construction season," said Brooke Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "Trunk 8 is an important road connection between Liverpool and the Annapolis Royal area as well the road to Kejimkujik National Park."

This project is part of the province's Building for Growth plan. The plan will benefit local communities while providing work and supporting the provincial economy.

The department's highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
