Yarmouth Awarded Annual Culture Conference

Tourism, Culture and Heritage (Dec. 2003 - Jan. 2011)

The town of Yarmouth will host members of the arts and culture community at the fourth annual Creative Nova Scotia Awards Gala and Conference on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The selection of the location was announced today, April 9, by the Nova Scotia Arts and Culture Partnership Council, host of the annual event.

"This is one of the most important events of the year for Nova Scotia's arts and culture sector, and Yarmouth is a good choice with its strong and vibrant arts community," said Bill Dooks, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Heritage.

The location of the event alternates between Halifax and the other four regions of the province. This year, a call for proposals was issued to the western region and Yarmouth was one of six communities that expressed interest in hosting the event. The review and selection of the host community was made by a committee of representatives from the province's culture sector.

"We are delighted that Yarmouth will be the backdrop for this year's conference," said council chairperson, Paul Gallant. "Arts and culture play a vital role in communities throughout Nova Scotia and we are pleased to promote dialogue on ways to strengthen the sector through this event."

The conference provides an excellent learning and networking opportunity for members of the arts and culture sector, and celebrates the pursuit of excellence by Nova Scotian artists with several prestigious awards.

The Nova Scotia Arts and Culture Partnership Council, in consultation with the arts and culture sector, provides advice and recommendations to guide the Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage investment in Nova Scotia's artists, cultural industries and cultural activities.
