Changes to the Motor Vehicle Act

Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (Oct. 2000 - March 2014)

Proposed changes to the Motor Vehicle Act will allow temporary residents who have a compelling reason to stay in the province for more than 90 days to continue using their home driver's licence.

The bill was introduced by Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister Ramona Jennex, today, Sept. 23.

"We have been receiving requests from various groups such as oil industry and farm workers, among others, to allow workers to use their home licence for the duration of their stay in Nova Scotia," said Ms. Jennex. "This measure will also help employers address workers' concerns about driver testing and licensing, particularly for those who need to drive as part of their job."

Licence extensions for temporary residents will be given on a case-by-case basis, with road safety being the top priority.
