Southwest Nova Scotia is getting support from the province to continue to promote Acadian heritage and language.

Government committed $40,000 to La Société historique acadienne de Pubnico-Ouest for additions to the Musée des Acadiens des Pubnicos and Archives.

"On behalf of Acadian Affairs and Economic and Rural Development, I would like to express our delight in supporting La Société historique acadienne de Pubnico-Ouest," said Acadian Affairs Minister Graham Steele. "With our federal, municipal and community partners, we are helping to continue its great work preserving and promoting Acadian culture in southwest Nova Scotia."

The funding will be used to create additional space at the museum for programming and displays. The museum and archives house a large collection of Acadian artifacts and archival documents dating back to the 1700s.

The total cost of the project is $197,000. The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Canadian Heritage and the Municipality of Argyle are partnering with the province to contribute funding.

La Société historique acadienne de Pubnico-Ouest is a non-profit organization that works to promote and preserve Acadian heritage.

"I commend La Société on its leadership and dedication to help this become a reality," said Mr. Steele. "It is a great example of the Acadian community organizations that help preserve the heritage and language of Acadians, and promote the diversity and culture of the province."

Investments through Economic and Rural Development's Strategic Funding Initiatives help ensure economic growth and sustainable communities for Nova Scotia, building on their assets and strengths. Funding is provided on a one-time basis for non-recurring capital costs and investments for not-for-profit organizations across the province.
