Brochures to Help Students Make Career Decisions

Education (July 1999 - March 2013)

Students now have another career resource when making a decision about their future in Nova Scotia.

The Department of Education has distributed a series of 25 brochures to high schools across the province as part of the Youth Pathways and Transitions strategy. The strategy is designed to help students shape their futures and support successful transitions from junior to senior high and to post-secondary education.

The Career Pathways brochures provide information on 25 occupations, with high employment potential, including health care, finance and skilled trades. The brochures provide a description of the job, what courses are needed, where the work is located, and expected salaries.

"There are many great career and educational opportunities available here in Nova Scotia, and we want to ensure more young people take advantage of those opportunities and build a life here," said Education Minister Marilyn More. "The brochures are a great addition to other career resources available to students and parents when making career plans."

The featured occupations were chosen based on labour market trends. Another available resource for students is the Department of Labour and Workforce Development's Career Options website at www.nscareeroptions.ca .
