$6.5-Million Road Twinning Contract Awarded for Highway 104

Twinning of Highway 104 toward Sutherlands River will continue this year after the awarding of a $6.5-million paving contract by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.

The $6,524,117 contract was awarded to S.W. Weeks Contracting Inc. to pave two new eastbound lanes of Highway 104 from the end of the existing twinned lanes for 7.4 kilometres east of the Pine Tree Road overpass. The contract also includes upgrades to highway lighting at Exit 26.

"Continuing the twinning of Highway 104 to Sutherlands River is one of our top priorities," said Bill Estabrooks, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "The cost of this project is being shared with the federal government and we're continuing to work with them on funding important infrastructure jobs throughout Nova Scotia."

The department's highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro, and Sydney.
