4-H Members Go For Green

Forty-five 4-H members are participating in an Atlantic Canada conference that will challenge them to be leaders on a local and global level.

The Go For the Green! conference, for people aged 14 to 21, will be held March 26-28 in Debert.

"The goal of this conference is to introduce 4-H members to issues, both here and abroad, that are impacting their lives now and in the future," said John MacDonell, Minister of Agriculture. "Young people have the power to bring about change and the 4-H program provides them with the life skills they need to become effective community leaders."

The two-and-a-half-day conference provides an opportunity for 4-H members to network, develop personal, team and leadership skills, and expand horizons about climate change, international development, agriculture and community involvement.

"We are excited to host this conference in Nova Scotia and offer 4-H members the opportunity to discuss topics that are of concern to them," said Ruth Grant, senior 4-H program co-ordinator, Department of Agriculture. "4-H encourages the care and responsibility of our resources and builds positive life skills in young people."

Engineers Without Borders will discuss Water For the World, Carl Duirvenvoorden will lead a discussion on the Inconvenient Truth, Gord McNeilly will present Power To Believe and Tyler Hayden will deliver Living Life Large, a presentation on a balanced lifestyle.

The conference is funded by the Atlantic 4-H Committee, Agri-Futures Nova Scotia, Agrium and the Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island provincial 4-H councils.
