The provincial 4-H camp will host 200 members between the ages of 9 and 15, providing them with a summer adventure in healthy living, skills and leadership development.

Camp Rankin will host five, 5-day camps from July 4 to August 6.

"Camp Rankin provides 4-H members with a positive educational program and a memorable experience," said John MacDonell, Minister of Agriculture. "They make lasting friendships and develop skills during their time at camp which they use in their everyday lives to make life better in their communities."

Camp Rankin, built in 1972 as a Centennial project of the Richmond County 4-H Leader's Council, was the first 4-H camp in the Atlantic provinces. It is located on 60 acres of land at Cape George, near St. Peters, Richmond Co.

The camp features hiking trails, a beach and a dining and recreation hall. Camp counselors lead the youth through traditional camp activities and 4-H skills sessions.

"The 4-H camp program continues to be a good experience for members and many of them will return year after year," said Arthur Pick, acting manager, Regional Services. "This year 4-H members were encouraged to bring a buddy to camp to promote the 4-H program as a positive experience and to recruit new members."
