ECONOMIC AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND TOURISM--Minister Promotes I Love Nova Scotia Day

  • ---------------------------------------------------------------NOTE: The following is an op-ed piece by Economic and Rural Development and Tourism Minister Percy Paris

The 2011 Halifax Canada Games are finally here. Nova Scotia is thrilled to play host to the country's finest athletes and their families.

We want to make our guests feel right at home. To welcome them to our beautiful province and introduce them to all of the amazing things we have to offer, we are hosting I Love Nova Scotia Day at Celebration Square in Grand Parade in Halifax on Monday, Feb. 14.

We want you to come out and help us celebrate! We will kick things off with giveaways at the Nova Scotia Tourism booth. I will be there to help distribute I Love NS pins, toques and other must-have collectibles. Premier Darrell Dexter will be joining me to help with the festivities.

Come and see us there and discover, or rediscover, why there are so many reasons to love our province.

Beginning at 11:30 a.m., we will be showcasing Nova Scotia's unique arts and culture, when our own 78th Regiment Highlander pipes and drums will open the ceremonies in grand style.

Create a message in our video booth to tell the world why you love Nova Scotia, and why everyone should come and visit. Your videos will be posted on novascotia.com and shared through our social media channels.

Experience first-hand what it is like to be a Canada Games athlete by getting a photo taken on our very own medal podium, or sample some of the tasty treats the province has to offer. We will also be hosting two free concerts.

At noon, enjoy the beautiful artistry of performers from the Maritime African Dance Centre. Then take in the tunes of Nova Scotia musical talents, Cory Tetford and Paul Lamb.

Get ready to show us your dance moves during the evening show, when we welcome The Joel Plaskett Emergency to the stage.
We cannot wait to get out and celebrate all the things that make our province such a wonderful place to live. We hope you will bring your friends and family and join us on Feb. 14 and share your love for Nova Scotia.
