Province, NSCAD Move To Protect Fine Arts Education

The province and NSCAD University are working together to ensure a strong and sustainable future for fine arts education in the province.

In co-operation with NSCAD, Labour and Advanced Education Minister Marilyn More has appointed former provincial deputy minister Howard Windsor to explore options.

"I met with university's board of governors yesterday and I am very pleased that we have all agreed to work to protect the future of NSCAD and fine arts education in the province," said Ms. More.

NSCAD president David Smith said, "I look forward to working with Mr. Windsor, our board and administration to ensure a strong fine arts education in Nova Scotia and a sustainable financial future for NSCAD."

Mr. Windsor will report his findings to Ms. More by the end of November.

NSCAD, founded in 1887, provides undergraduate and graduate degrees for students in fine and media arts, craft, design, and historical and critical studies. Nova Scotia's creative economy employs about 28,000 people directly and indirectly and contributes more than a billion dollars to the provincial economy.
