More Details in Death at Southwest Nova Scotia Correctional Facility

The Department of Justice is releasing more details in the death of an offender on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Southwest Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Yarmouth.

The 44-year-old man was discovered in his cell just before 10 p.m.

The medical examiner has ruled his death a suicide.

The man had been remanded to the institution while facing charges of robbery, wearing a disguise during commission of an offence and possession of property obtained by crime from an incident Dec. 12. He was arrested Dec. 19.

Next of kin have been notified. The man's name cannot be released, under departmental policy.
