Province to Fund Waterville Airport Study

The province will fund a study looking at relocating the Waterville Municipal Airport to support future potential expansion of the Michelin Tire Plant.

The study will cost up to $100,000 and will be conducted in co-operation with Michelin and Municipality of the County of Kings.

"The province continues to explore opportunities that will grow the province's economy and create good jobs for Nova Scotians," said Premier Darrell Dexter. "The Waterville plant is marking 30 years of production this year and the province looks forward to continued growth in the years ahead for Michelin."

The study will be completed by the end of summer.

"Attracting, retaining and growing businesses like Michelin requires hard work, and we're ready to get that work done," said Warden of Municipality of the County of Kings Diana Brothers. "A successful feasibility study will show a way to support and promote Michelin's growth and the needs of the airport. I'm confident we'll find a win-win way to do it."

Michelin employs about 3,500 people in Nova Scotia, including 1,200 at the Waterville plant.
