BeyondTrust Expands Canadian Office in Nova Scotia

BeyondTrust, an industry leader in cutting-edge security software, is planning to expand its research and development team in Nova Scotia.

The company has signed a five-year agreement with Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI) to support the company's investment and employment growth in Nova Scotia. BeyondTrust provides context-aware security intelligence, which can consider such things as identity, location, time of day, device and more, of people trying to access a business's network.

"Nova Scotia has a vibrant IT sector, talented labour and the resources to meet our company's needs and our client's needs," said Marc Maiffret, chief technology officer of BeyondTrust. He is well-known in the cybersecurity industry for discovering the first Microsoft computer worm, CodeRed.

"The implications of cybercrime are universal, pervasive and have financial implications for organizations and individuals. Our team in Nova Scotia will be working to address these issues."

NSBI attracted eEye Digital Security to Nova Scotia, from Irvine, Calif., in 2010. In May 2012, eEye became a wholly-owned subsidiary of BeyondTrust. After the two merged, BeyondTrust selected Nova Scotia to consolidate most of its research and development teams from India and Eastern Europe.

BeyondTrust must create at least 30 full-time equivalent positions in the first year of the agreement. The company would then be eligible to earn a rebate on the payroll for the jobs, to a maximum of 100 positions.

BeyondTrust would add more than $36 million in salary, if it creates 100 new positions, with employees paying provincial personal income taxes of about $4,183,000. The company would earn up to $2,903,463 in payroll rebates through NSBI's Strategic Investment Funds.
