Learn To Camp At Blomidon Provincial Park

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Nova Scotians have until noon, Monday, June 23, to register for a fun July weekend in Blomidon Provincial Park, where they can learn about camping and other outdoor activities.

On July 5 and 6, the province is re-offering its Learn2Camp program, and supplying tents and meals; participants need only bring bedding and some personal items.

"A generation of Canadians who never camped out want their children to experience the adventure and Learn2Camp is a great start," said Natural Resources Minister Zach Churchill. "For $60, a family of four can spend a quality weekend together, meals and accommodation included. That's exceptional value."

The fee provides up to four people with an overnight stay in Blomidon Provincial Park in Kings County. Up to two other people can be added for $10 each. The province supplies a loaner family-sized tent, utensils, plates and cutlery, and a flashlight or lantern. Saturday night supper and Sunday morning breakfast are provided, too.

In addition to learning how to choose camping and outdoor cooking gear, how to set up and break down camp, and campfire safety, participants can also learn about bird watching and geocaching.

The Power family, from Halifax, attended Learn2Camp last year.

"We would recommend it to any family," said Jodi Power. "The speakers were friendly and open to questions and, most importantly, the kids had a blast."

Learn2Camp is a partnership between the Department of Natural Resources, Canadian Tire and Coleman Canada.
