Municipal Affairs (April 2014 - May 2019)

NOTE: A list of projects follows this release.

Municipal Affairs Minister Mark Furey announced funding for improvements to 17 Royal Canadian Legion branches in the province today, July 25.

Government is investing $122,000 under the Legion Capital Assistance Program to help Legion branches upgrade heating systems and washrooms, repair roofs and siding, and replace doors and windows.

"Legion members across the province dedicate countless hours supporting local projects and programs for seniors and youth, and in service of veterans," said Mr. Furey. "Legions open their facilities to us all for meetings, activities and events, and they play an important role in their communities."

The program provides up to 50 per cent of eligible costs, to a maximum contribution of $10,000.

"Cost-shared grants awarded through this program are invaluable in assisting Royal Canadian Legion branches to remain accessible and sustainable to best serve our veterans and our communities," said Ronald Trowsdale, Royal Canadian Legion Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command president.

"This grant is the catalyst for moving the upgrade to our heating and cooling systems ahead," said Wayne Hunt, president of Branch No. 24 in Bridgewater. "Thank you, Nova Scotia, for your unwavering and generous support."
