New Season of Public Events at Government House Announced

Musical performances, book readings and lectures are among the events planned for the new season of Evenings at Government House, a public event series hosted by the lieutenant governor.

"The upcoming season of events at Government House promises to be entertaining, thought-provoking and has something for everyone," said Lt.-Gov. J.J. Grant. "Mrs. Grant and I invite the public to join us this fall in celebrating the talents and achievements of our fellow citizens."

The public events are free and will be held at Government House, 1451 Barrington St., Halifax. People can register by e-mailing lgoffice@gov.ns.ca or calling 902-424-7001.

Scheduled events are:

• reading and discussion of The Promised Land – a novel of Cape Breton by Bill Conall, winner of the 2014 Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour, Tuesday, Sept. 23, 7-8:30 p.m.
• lecture by Donald M. Julien, The Involvement and Sacrifices of Mi'kmaq in the First World War, Tuesday, Oct. 7, 7-8:30 p.m.
• musical performance by Kim Harris, in association with Halifax Pop Explosion, Tuesday, Oct. 21, 7-8:30 p.m.
• lecture by vice-admiral (ret'd) Glenn Davidson, former Ambassador of Canada to Syria and Afghanistan, Personal Reflections on 5 Years in Syria and Afghanistan, Tuesday, Nov. 4 7-8:30 p.m.
• film screening of Joseph Howe: The Tribune of Nova Scotia with Dean Jobb, associate professor, school of journalism, University of King's College, Tuesday, Nov. 18, 7-8:30 p.m.
• musical performance by Nova Voce, Nova Scotia's Provincial Men's Choir, Tuesday, Dec. 2, 7-8:30 p.m.
