Author Ali Bryan Embarks on Nova Scotia Reading Tour

Communities, Culture and Heritage (Jan. 2011 - Aug. 2021)

One Book Nova Scotia, a provincewide reading program, launched Sunday, Sept. 21, with author Ali Bryan and her book Roost. The kick-off happened at the annual Word on the Street festival, held on the Halifax waterfront.

Ms. Bryan will be touring the province hosting readings in various libraries.

"I'm looking at the tour as a giant cultural cross-province treasure hunt," said Ms. Bryan. "I plan to eat, play and buy local. And I'm looking forward to meeting and engaging with readers. There is nothing more fun as a writer than listening to readers discuss your book."

Ms. Bryan grew up in Halifax and Sackville, New Brunswick. Roost, set in Halifax, is Ms. Bryan's first novel and it explores family issues.

"Roost was selected because it is an accessible, humorous book that also tackles serious issues such as the death of a parent, divorce, and caring for an aging parent," said Jeff Mercer, co-chair of the One Book Nova Scotia steering committee.

Schedule of author readings:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 23, 7 p.m.: NSCC Burridge Campus Library, Yarmouth
  • Wednesday, Sept. 24, 7 p.m.: Baddeck Public Library, Baddeck
  • Thursday, Sept. 25, 7 p.m.: Antigonish Town & County Library, Antigonish
  • Friday, Sept. 26, 7 p.m.: Four Fathers Memorial Library, Amherst

One Book Nova Scotia, with its slogan "read the same book and share the same story," is in its third consecutive year.

The program is organized by Libraries Nova Scotia, which represents public, university, and community college libraries and the Nova Scotia Provincial Library, a division of the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage.
