Funding for Mineral Exploration

Prospectors and mining companies can once again apply for funding from the government's Mineral Incentive Program to help find or develop new mineral resources.

"I am very encouraged that this program is leading to new mineral discoveries and attracting new interest in mineral exploration in our province," said Natural Resources Minister Zach Churchill.

"The economic importance of mining and mineral exploration, especially to rural Nova Scotia, cannot be overstated."

The Mineral Incentive Program helps prospectors and companies do mineral exploration work which can open opportunities for employment and businesses.

The program has $400,000 available in grants. Eligible prospectors can receive grants up to $15,000 for their exploration work. There is also funding available for training and business development.

Shared grants up to $100,000 are available for projects that show strong potential to lead to new discoveries of minerals or to expand work on previous discoveries.

For those projects, the provincial grant will match up to 50 per cent of eligible costs.

Applications must be submitted by June 3. They will be evaluated by mid-June and approved applicants will be notified shortly after that.
